GEMS played as tight of a set as one could hope for Thursday night at Pianos. The Washington D.C. duo are most easily described as a more dream-pop version of Beach House with hazy arrangements with a pop edge. Lindsay Pitts vocals shine through live, with some great textured guitar playing from Clifford John Usher.

For a band still relatively new to the scene, GEMS sound incredibly tight and polished live, and make quite a stir considering they’re only a duo. I saw them last at SXSW and this performance showed me growth already, making me firmly believe that this is only the beginning for these guys. Look out for them, they’re going places.
