Oldboy Poster

It’s been some time since I last viewed Chan-wook Park’s Oldboy (which came out in 2003), but I do remember being blown away by it, even if I did see it at a rather young age. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise when the news hit that an American remake was on the way. It was only a matter of time. With that said, they definitely took an interesting route by plugging in Spike Lee as the director, and choosing Josh Brolin to take over the the leading role.

The first trailer released shows us Spike Lee’s version, and I gotta hand it to him, it ain’t looking half bad. Apparently Lee is adapting bits from the Oldboy comic that the original is based on. With that said, you can definitely see a similar tone in the trailer from the original film.

I’m interested to see what Lee does with the film, and am definitely looking forward to checking Oldboy out when it comes out on October 25. Watch the red-band trailer below.
