Cutie And The Boxer is a documentary about Ushio Shinohard and his wife, Noriko. Ushio is a avant-garde artist, who often uses boxing in his art, and Noriko works as his assistant. This documentary takes a look at his work as well as her own art, but is much, much, more than that.
See, Ushio & Noriko have been married for 40-years. That is a long time. That’s nearly double my life. The documentary, done by Zachary Heinzerling, explores their marriage and their journey from when Ushio moved from Tokyo to New York in order to make it big as an artist, to the present. Over time, Ushio has struggled to truly reach the fame so many thought he would, and ironically enough, his wife is just starting to get recognized for her own art.
The trailer does the film more justice than my words, so please check it out. This really looks like one big delight of a film that seems like a true breath of fresh air.
