Shugo Tokumaru was the surprise of 2013. I didn’t know much about him other than that he came Tokyo, Japan. He had an incredible sound that just connects with you instantly. He had a very peaceful clean sound that was blessed with an incredible sense of melody re-calling the likes of The Beatles/Beach Boys. His band has a wide array of instruments at their dispole, which was a huge reason as to why their sound stood alone as one of the most unique sets of the entire week.
Yet it’s amazing because I was instantly drawn into his set, and left a newly found fan of his work. He just released a new album called In Focus? this past January. Check out a lovely song from it called “Katachi”:
