The Allah-Las debut album was a late discovery for me in 2012, but it still was one of my favorite albums of 2012. The band just have this cool nature about them that takes all kinds of throwback rock sounds and make it freshly their own. You wouldn’t be at fault for mistaking them for a long forgotten band from 50 years ago.
I finally caught them live at SXSW, finding them playing at the Sonos Studios party, which was held in a beautiful little backyard. It was an intimate setting as can be, and it was perfect to soak in all that the Allah-Las has to offer. The sun was starting to set, and the band were a tight-knit group that delivered their rock sounds with breezy confidence that was easy to get lost in.
