Team Spirit were the first pleasant surprise of my first day SXSW, putting on an enjoyable showing of sun-inspired power-rock. It was a perfect set for the summer like nighttime breeze that Austin offered us, and the copious amounts of free booze that was flowing through the veins of Viceland.
I thought that the frontman looked semi-familiar and it turns out it’s Ayad Al Adhamy, the former keyboardist of Passion Pit. I was wondering where he has been, as he hasn’t appeared in anything Passion Pit in over a year, and it was a pretty hushed split (not sure if he quit or was “fired).
Anyway, he’s joined up with new musicians such as Cosmo Kilburn DiGiulio of DOM to create an enjoyable rock group that is already signed to Vice Records. They put on a good live show, and are definitely a band to watch in 2013.
