Local Natives ended a three night run in the city (MHOW + 2 Bowery shows) with a bold offering that showed them even better than they were at CMJ last fall. At that show, it was the first time they played songs from Hummingbird live. Fast-forward 3 1/2 months and they were playing them hot and fresh, and they sounded even better than I remembered. I love Local Natives recorded work, but their a live band, pure and simple. Their music just comes to life on stage, it’s a shame not to check them out if you’re a fan.
Give it some time but soon Local Natives will likely leave behind these smaller stages, and will soon be hitting us at Terminal 5, Webster Hall, and possibly even Radio City in a few years. The fans at the show were going nuts between songs, with girls screaming at a feverish rate. It was surprising to me just because these guys have a long history with this blog, and it’s amazing to see just how far they’ve come.
