Foxygen were another member of the bands receiving gracious buzz at CMJ this year, and they totally deserved it. From the minute they started playing I knew they were something special. They rocked it hard, sounding almost like a new Rolling Stones/The Kinks. There was a gritty, gutsy, punch to the songs that creating quite a stir of energy at Fuzz NYC, which is really a small Chinese reasturant that had karaoke videos running in the background.
Not that this mattered, because I’m pretty sure these guys would rock the shit out of any venue that you threw them in. They went from rocking out to freakish-experimental rockouts in the Ariel Pink area. They were a young energetic bunch that I can safely call one of my favorite new bands. Can’t wait until they release their debut full-length, We Are The 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic. It’s gonna be a good one.
