My  best friend Chris (follow him on twitter) has an even broader taste of music than me. Even so. he surprised me when he bought Ellie Goulding’s CD when we went to London this past January. He’s been a big fan of hers ever since and when he told me that he bought tickets to see her live, I was intrigued. I always want to keep an open mind and try new things, and an Ellie Goulding show is definitely different than what I usually attend. Thanks to the good people at FTW, I got an opportunity to check out her sold out show at Terminal 5 tonight.

It was a rare moment in concert going where I (a male) was in the minority. As you can expect there were plenty of females there, mostly in their teens. To be fair there were a decent amount of guys there, proving that Ellie has cross appeal.

Ellie is definitely a star in the making. I’m not all that familiar with her stuff (aside for the big hits), and a lot of the set was hit or miss, but when she wants to. she can create quite a ruckus (“Starry Eyed” was a great deal of fun). Her hit are certainly hits for a reason. She did some slower stuff which suited her better than I expected. I really enjoyed her cover of Elton John’s “Your Song”, it translated very well live.

I didn’t realize that she was only 24 years old, so she’s only going to get better. She has a great voice live and seemed to be very geniune to her fans, always a plus these days. I wasn’t completely blown away but I did have fun watching her perform, which is all one can really ask for in a pop star.

Ellie is young and already has an incredible fan base. I think this is just the start, give it a few years and she will be even bigger than she already is. It’ll be hard not to smile as it happens. She’s a very likable pop star, something we need more of.

Bag Raiders opened and brought a decent set of enjoyable electo-house songs that got everyone amped. Not too shabby.
