Eureka Birds are a band from Baltimore who make delicate indie rock for the soft of heart. Their Eureka! EP is finely packaged with 6 songs that are simple a pleasure to listen to. Each song is built around a lovely melody that becomes fully realized with Justin Levy’s warm vocals. Their songs take flight with a wide variety of influences that create the ultimate package. These guys are far from amateurs.

At parts, the EP reminds me of some familiar artists. “Sarah (Sits and Cries)” sounds like an ode to Rockin’ The Suburbs era Ben Folds. “Sunset On Film” sounds like it would fit right in on Death Cab’s Transatlanticism. Don’t worry, Eureka Birds have their own identity. There are moments of poetic beauty with songs like “There Was Light” that seems as natural as can be for them. “Cactus Man” is a better song that even the band would have suspected. It’s just songwriting done right, plain and simple.

This is a solid EP that makes me regret not discovering these guys a lot earlier. The band’s giving the EP away for free at their bandcamp page. Be sure to give it a stream below:
