I got to see Young Man open for Local Natives but didn’t get to appreciate him enough. I got to the show late and missed about 10 minutes of his set. It was hard for me to get into the rest of his set as a result, and I wasn’t completely sold on him. At the time of the show, I had no background on the band. Well that was my problem, it’s actually not a technical “band”. It’s the project of Colin Caulfield.

He got his start after posted some incredible covers on youtube. He covered the likes of Deerhunter (which Bradford Cox himself said was better than the original), Beach House, Animal Collective, Panda Bear, and The Beatles, amongst others. Now it makes sense why I thought he was so good at sounding like other bands when I saw him live.https://weallwantsomeone.org/wp-admin/post.php?post=10223&action=edit&message=10

Colin earned himself plenty of warranted attention, and got signed to Frenchkiss Records. He is going to release his debut EP Boy on iTunes on August 24th, while the physical copy will drop on October 1st. You can legally download “Five”, a song from the EP. Yeah, it’s damn good.

You can even stream his entire Boy EP below:

Here is the incredible cover of Beach House’s “Heart Of Chambers” that he did, with a mp3 download:

After hearing his EP and all of these incredible covers, Young Man has impressed me a great deal. He’s got a shit ton of talent, and a lot of great ideas. Can’t wait to see what else he can do in the future.
