Cut Copy turned the Williamsburg Waterfront into one giant dance party yesterday afternoon. They wasted no time kicking things into full gear by opening with “Lights and Music”. The set was mostly stuff from In Ghost Colours. The band only played one song from Bright Like Neon Love, “That Was Just A Dream”. They gave us three new songs, which included “Where I’m Going” a song that you can download for free. The other two songs are titled “Alisa” & “Blink and You’ll Miss The Revolution”, which singer Dan Whitford said is going to be there next single.

All three of the new songs impressed me a great deal. They had a Beatle-esque psychedelic (ok, maybe it’s just “Where I’m Going) atmosphere to them that intertwined with their new wave sound perfectly. If all goes well, their new album is going to amaze. They ended the show with the only song that fit the bill: “Hearts On Fire”. The crowd went absolutely berserk, jumping in unison, and releasing their week long tension without a care in the world. The entire show was a fun dance party, just what you expect from Cut Copy. The band has plenty of live chops, enough to keep your jaw dropped while your dancing your ass off.

Restless People opened the show. Tanlines was a part of the band, re-creating a tropical dance sound that was enjoyable enough, but not something I will go back to. Glasser have potential to create soem really beautiful ambient movement, but I wasn’t really feeling them yesterday. I really did enjoy the set from Memory Tapes, who lived up to their hype. They had me moving and grooving. Gonna go grab their album soon. They were great.

No matter what, I will be at Cut Copy’s next NYC show. I will not miss out on one of their shows as long as it’s up to me. I’ve been listening to nothing but In Ghost Colours all weekend, and I really can’t wait to have a new album full of new dance gems to grace my ears in 2011.

P.S. – Am I the only one who didn’t get Punches? After about 10 minutes of their set, I was good. Yet, they were on for what felt like 3 hours. Ugh!
