I will make a statement right now. If you disliked the Horrors first album “Strange House”, throw away your dislike for them. So many people judge them on their image, and that is just stupid + unfair. I had a good time with their debut, it was a good record. However even I thought that they were going to fall of the map. I expected their follow up to be a weak attempt of recreating “Strange House”. Holy shit was I wrong.

Their new album “Primary Colours” is a stunning recreation of themselves. It is practically a different band! I read that The Horros locked themselves indoors without any windows or contact with anyone for quite sometime while recording this new album. The result of this is pretty spectacular. I did enjoy their debut, but it hardly connected to me the way their new album has. The rest of the world is going to be on the horrors bandwagon pretty soon. It wasn’t cool to like them before. Well, I promise you the tide has shifted.

Their are hints of shoegaze, post-punk, and new wave meshed with their original dark garage sound. I talked about their single (a contender for song of the year for me) Sea Within A Sea and what a vast difference it was from the bands first album. After giving Primary Colours enough proper listens I can assure you that Sea Within A Sea was not a fluke, but rather a hint of the greatness that was to come. The band still has the same dark murkiness, but they combine it with snyth heavy experimentation, creating some brilliant soundscapes along the way.

My friends used to rip on me for being a fan of the Horrors. Well once the press is done raving this album, I am sure everyone will suddenly be fans of The Horrors. Even I didn’t expect to say this about the Horrors but they may have crafted one of 2009’s finest albums.
