Aside from catching a glimpse of Metric live at All Points West last year, I never truly sat down and gave them a fair listen. They always seemed like a band that I would like. For some reason people seem to assume that I don’t like female singers. Come on guys, that is simply not true!! I have a soft spot for gorgeous female vocals over indie pop. There is just something about it that is so seductive and appealing. Well I got an advanced copy of Metric’s new album “Fantasies” and Metric have become the latest band to really capture my soul.
Ok maybe not my soul, but they have caught my eye. The album really starts of undeniably strong with two pop gems “Help I’m Alive” & “Sick Muse”. These are songs that are constructed to the perfect degree allowing the sexy vocals of Emily Haines to control you over the well mannered playing of the rest of the band. These are songs that you can be emotional with, but at the same time these are songs that I can see as mainstays on the dance floor. This is the weapon that Metric has, crossover appeal to many different people.
Check out Fantasies when it drops on Apri 14th. You do not want to miss this one!
