On a gorgeous early summer night we were treated to a one-off show at House of Vans from The Kills. The band had double duty as they played in Brooklyn on the 18th and at the House of Vans in Chicago the next night on the 19th as part of the ongoing Vans series, “Get on Board: A Celebration of Women’s Skateboarding Open Skate and Concert.”

The band is still hard in touring form, even though their last proper album release was 2016’s Ash & Ice. However, they did recently release a new 7″ via Domino Records featuring covers of Saul Williams’ “List of Demands (Reparations)” and Peter Tosh’s “Steppin’ Razor” (originally written by Joe Higgs). This was a typically fierce performance from the group, led by the powerhouse duo of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince who treated the lucky crowd at House of Vans to a 15-song set that featured all the expected old favorites as well as both of the new covers.

We are already looking forward to The Kills next stop here and hope that a new album will come with them.
