Not too long ago The Walkmen previewed a new song called “Heaven” on Pitchfork.tv. It was a great performance, and one that made me extremely eager to hear the final studio product. Well the song has finally arrived, as it’s the first official single off their forthcoming album, also titled Heaven.
The single doesn’t loose any of the shine that the live version displayed. Passionate lyrics about one’s best friend, and possibly losing them, hit home with ease. Glossy production does well with a song that tries to reach out and grab you, which is certainly the case with “Heaven”. It’s also one of their catchier songs to date. That’s never a bad thing.
Heaven comes out via Fat Possum on June 5.
