So, right now I’m enjoying Weezer’s new album Hurley. It’s no Blue/Pink or even Green for that matter, but it didn’t fail like everyone wanted expected it to. I still got to digest it more fully, but I think Weezer have made their best record in many years.

Where Red and Raditude felt like sloppy albums with a couple of memorable moments, Hurley seems to be a more cohesive album. It flows, and the songs seem more natural for the boys. It sounds to me like the band is more comfortable on indie label Epitaph, returning to natural songwriting. I mean, I doubt “I Can’t Stop Partying” was a true heart to heart moment for the guys.

“Ruling Me”, the 2nd song off the album really caught my ear immediately. It has that vintage honest feel that the old Weezer used to give me. “Unspoken” may just be the closest thing to a Pinkerton cut that Weezer have given us. When everything breaks down at the 2:12 mark with that classic Weezer guitar jam crunch, it makes me feel good for sticking around with Weezer through this last decade. I knew they still had it in them.

Stream both of these bad boys below. The whole thing is streaming on myspace as well:
