Happy December! We are at the final month of 2009, how crazy is that? Time is really flying by. I remember one of my middle school teachers telling me that time absolutely flies by as you grow older. Sadly, it is so true! I am experiencing a lot of stress with school work this week since I only have two weeks left. It is crunch time for papers and tests! Thankfully, writing on this blog helps keep me somewhat sane!
Getting to hear a brand new Spoon song is quite a way to kick off December as well!
Spoon are officially back with “Written In Reverse”, the first official single off of Transference! The song dropped today, and I gotta give it to Spoon. They are continuing to release tons of great records, year after year! I posted about the leaked song “The Mystery Zone” last month, which really gave us a good idea about how the album would sound. “Written In Reverse” keeps this gritty style going. “Written In Reverse” is a fantastic single that sounds raw and edgy. It has one hell of a groove working for it with disjointed piano playing, crisp Spoon friendly guitars, and dirty basslines . It feels like a Gimme Fiction-era Spoon song. Spoon’s instrumentation is sounding real tight. They have mastered the craft that is song recording. It certainly helps to have a front man like Britt Daniel, backed up by one of the best rhythm sections in the game. This is a mighty fine choice for a first single. It’s going on repeat!
After hearing this, “The Mystery Zone” and “Got Nuffin” we have a pretty good idea about how Transference will sound. Mighty good. Spoon had enough fun dominating this decade. They arguably put out the greatest amount of great records from 2000-2009. Once January 19th, 2010 comes rolling along, it’s time for Spoon’s new era of domination!
