I am surprised at myself. I don’t know why I didn’t mention the Blakroc project before this post. I got to stop being so lazy!!!
For those of you that are unfamiliar with the project, now is a good time to get educated. Blakroc is the collaboration project of The Black Keys with a variety of rappers. The rappers include somke A-listers such as Ludacris, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Mos Def, Raekwon, and RZA. The Black Keys tone down the dirty garage rock and play more soulful tunes that allow the rappers to feel the soul in their bones and spit out some rhymes.
I have one of the Mos Def featured songs “On The Vista” posted below for you guys to test out. There is something about Mos Def’s delivery that makes this song feel right. The Black Keys are a great, great, band who are able to craft the perfect soul for Mos Def to take control. Everything here sounds smooth and crisp, but at the same time very raw and dirty. I can dig that!
The whole self titled album is really solid overall. It is collaboration done right if you ask me. Blakroc stomps all over “collaborations” like the Linkin Park’s collaboration with Jay-Z, otherwise known as Collision Course. The self titled album is due 11/27, and you can pre-order it right here.
