Arctic Monkeys EP for their single “Crying Lightning” is set to come out Monday in the UK. With the power of the internet both new tracks are out there. The EP includes their fantastic cover of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds “Red Right Hand” along with their short new b-side “I Haven’t Got My Strange”.
The “Red Right Hand Cover” is a juicer/faster paced version of the Nick Cave and The Bad Seed classic. The original song is a lot slower. The Arctic’s rendition is pretty much the song on steroids. It is another great cover that the Arctic’s can add to their catalog. “I Haven’t Got My Strange” is a short track, hardly passing the one minute mark! I can see why they left it off Humbug, it wouldn’t have fit at all. It is a very different track for the Arctic’s, with it being very moody and…mysterious. Josh Homme has his QOTSA desert psychedelic stamp all over it.
The Arctic’s continue to pump out great eps. There is no doubt that both songs are album worthy. It’s just that they wouldn’t mesh as well on Humbug.
