Monday Morning Matinee And The Future

By Will Oliver, January 13th 2020

When I first started this blog in 2008, I had one simple goal: share the best music I found with my friends. A lot has changed since then, with the site focusing on not only new music but concert photography, reviews, and much more.

For me, movies have always been an equally ferocious passion of mine, one that became impossible to ignore. I always wanted to write about movies and so in 2013, I decided to start a movie blog Monday Morning Matinee as the answer. At the time, I contemplated just doing movie reviews and musing right here but was afraid about mixing my drinks, so to speak.

With Monday Morning Matinee, I have had a ton of new experiences with a great small team of writers who joined me along the way. But after so many years, I have decided that it is time to close that chapter and start the one that probably was always meant to be right here.

I have decided to shut down Monday Morning Matinee as I think it ran its natural course. But I didn’t want to stop writing about movies and figured that I would do what I should’ve done 7 years ago and combine the two entities to make We All Want Someone To Shout For a place that celebrates the best in both music and movies.

Anyone who knows me or follows me on social media is hit with a furious combination of concert/music posts as well as my thoughts of movies. So for many, this makes sense. But if you are used to only music posts, this may be a shock. We hope that this won’t be too much of a shock and that you continue with us on this new journey. Nothing else will change, just a few additional writers joining the team and a few movies reviews in between all the usual content.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to comment below or reach out to me on social media or send us an email.

So, Peter Dinklage Took A Selfie With Me

By Will Oliver, June 27th 2014 — with 4 comments

If any of you guys follow me on social media, you may be aware of a photo that I took with Game Of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage that has somehow gone viral. Well at least the version of the photo with a photoshopped Grumpy Cat added in.

Today I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the validity of the photo from different outlets and random strangers and figured it was time just to iron out all the details right here to clear it all up.

I met Dinklage while attending a fan event for the new X-Men film in New York City at the Javits Center. I originally went there just to see the film, with no intention or expectations of meeting anyone from the film. We ended up not being able to screen the film, but ended up hanging around for the actual fan event to see what would happen. Next thing you know, I end up meeting Mr. Dinklage. As a big fan of Game Of Thrones, I had to ask for a photo. Now, I’m pretty tall myself so it worked out better for Peter to take the photo of us himself, selfie style. The photo came out well, and I got the idea to post it to reddit, seeing how its not everyday that you take a selfie with Tyrion Lannister.

I was surprised to find that the photo took off there, making the top page and spawning a photoshopped photo of Grumpy Cat next to Peter that some user decided to make (thank you random stranger). Soon enough, the photo was seemingly popping up on random places on the internet..

Here we are, a month later, and the photo has somehow found new life, going viral all over again. It’s now getting posted on some pretty big outlets, which has left me rather dumbfounded. I’m getting a lot of questions about it and figured it would be best to set the facts straight for once and for all:

1. No, Grumpy Cat isn’t really there. Sorry kids. Though, I would like to meet **her**
2. The photo is still real. Here’s the original post I made on my instagram.
3. Peter Dinklage is indeed, the man.
4. No, Grumpy Cat isn’t really there.

Iman Shumpert – New York Knicks Anthem

By Will Oliver, December 10th 2012

Gonna wear my Knicks pride a bit today. Knicks guard Iman Shumpert has a bit of a mini rap career going, and he has recorded a quick cover of Kanye West’s “Clique” and altered it to honor his fellow Knicks.

It’s all for fun, but it’s actually pretty well done. He’s been hurt all season, so this sure is one way to stay productive.

We All Want Someone To Shout For’s People’s List

By Will Oliver, August 17th 2012 — with 1 comment

Everyone else is doing it, so why not. Here’s our Peoples List. I literally included everything that had a shape on me, and this blog, at one time or another. This is a no bullshit, not trying to be cool, list. These were the albums that had an importance in some way from some point since 1996.

Check out my list here.

3 Years!

By Will Oliver, July 30th 2011 — with 3 comments

Woah, today is the 3rd year that We All Want Someone To Shout For has been around. That’s pretty insane. When I started this bad boy, I was getting ready to leave for college. Now I’m entering my senior year. Time sure flies.

Later this week I got a little present for you guys as a little celebration for three wonderful years. If you follow me on facebook or twitter, you may know what I’m talking about. If not, you will soon find out.

Thanks for all your support over the last three years. Whether you just started reading, or if you’ve been around since those good old days on blogspot (with my less than pleasant layout). Either way, it means the world to me. I can’t thank you enough.

Here’s to three more!

A New Look, A New Era

By Will Oliver, March 25th 2011 — with 3 comments

If you’re reading this, you probably have noticed that the site looks a little bit different. That’s because this is the brand new layout that Matt Kempster from FRXNT has made for me. We wanted to give it a sleek clean look, while also maintaining the simplicity of the previous layout that so many of us (including myself) fell in love with.

We All Want Someone is a place where I will always put content first. The music and my words will always be my first priority. All the flashy stuff can be left for other blogs. I’m not that crafty anyway. I love sharing the music that I like with the world. That has always been my first priority, and it always will be. I believe that’s the reason you guys keep coming back.

In July, it will be three years since I first started this thing. Where has the time gone, right? It truly seems like it was just yesterday that I was contemplating whether it would be worth it or not to start my own music blog. I knew my friends would probably check it out once and a while, but I didn’t think anyone else would.

I started We All Want Someone in order to share music with my friends. Secretly I wanted to spread my love for music with a larger audience, just like blogs like Gorilla Vs Bear, You Ain’t No Picasso, Pretty Much Amazing, all blogs that I followed prior to starting my own. I wanted to have that connection with people. I shared music with my friends in real life, why not share it with even more people? I thought it would be awesome to join them as a fellow music blogger, but I was worried people would never read.

I was wrong. You guys made it possible, and I can’t thank you enough. I know it’s cliché, but it’s the truth. This blog would be nothing without you. Your comments, your interactions with me on twitter/facebook, your shoutbox comments, and your personal e-mails, don’t go unnoticed. They keep me aware that people are reading, and that people care enough to write. Without you, I would have lost all desire to keep this thing running a long time ago. You could be at hundreds of other music blogs, but you guys visit me. I can’t show my appreciation enough.

So this new layout stands for all that has happened since July 2008. I’m a much different person than I was three years ago, and this new layout represents that change. I got a lot of great stuff ahead of us in the future, and I hope you will continue to be a part of this amazing ride. The heart of this blog will stay the same, even if it has a new skin to wear.

This site has seriously changed my life. Thanks for everything, and I hope you enjoy We All Want Someone To Shout For, Version 2.0.

Here’s a song that I need to post. It’s only right:

We All Want Someone To Shout For Is Two Years Old!

By Will Oliver, July 30th 2010 — with 15 comments

I was going through my blog archives the other day and wanted to see the official date that I started my blog. Sure enough it was July 30th, 2008, which means we are now officially 2 years young. Woah, where the hell did the last two years go?

It seems like it was only yesterday that I got the sudden urge to really start my own blog after some outside motivation from various people. It was partly a way for me to put all of my musical obsessions out there for my friends to see, but deep down I wanted to see if I could take this blog to bigger things. I remember seeing the rise of blogs like GorillavsBear, and was always amazed at how well blogs had done. Realistically, I never thought anyone would read this thing aside from some friends and family.

But here we are, two years later, and there are plenty of you. You subscribe to my RSS Feed, leave comments, e-mail me, write in my shoutbox, follow me on twitter. It’s all mind blowing. Two years ago I was just a kid who listened to way too much new music and probably annoyed the people around him with the new music he was listening to. Now I get to bother you guys, and you actually appreciate it. It’s pretty wonderful.

A lot has changed in my life in two years. Two years ago I was just about to enter college. I was only 17 years old. Now I am about to enter my junior year of college, and only have a few more months of being a teenager. I am somewhat of a different person inside, but in the core I guess I’m really the same. No matter what happens to me, this blog will always be a part of me.

I have all of you to thank for this. Without you, this blog wouldn’t be here. You guys push me to write multiple times every day to share my musical obsessions with. I hope that you enjoy this blog and that you continue to come back. I started We All Want Someone To Shout For partly for myself in 2008, but now I write it for all of you.

It’s been a great ride, but get ready for bigger and better things in the upcoming two years.

I figured I would share some songs with you that partly inspired this blog. These were some of my favorite songs that I formed emotional connections with that partly got me so invested with new music. Listen to the first song. It’s lyrics may ring a bell.

[mp3]: Arcade Fire – Wake Up

Happy New Year!

By Will Oliver, January 1st 2010 — with 1 comment

Hello 2010! It’s a brand new year, and a brand new opportunity to start over fresh! I am really excited that it is a new year, 2009 seemed to wear out it’s welcome! There year had a mix of good times, but also plenty of times I would rather forget. I am not “depressed”, but there were plenty of times during 2009 that I wanted to just cave in. Reasons? Well, I don’t know where I am headed in my future, for one thing. I had to put down my dog Georgia over the summer, which I still take very hard. I had her since I was 5 years old, so losing her really left a vacant hole in my heart. I have become even more strained from my father (divorced parents), and his side of the family. I don’t think they even know how old I am anymore. I haven’t spoken to him for over a year now. I bought a car in the summer, and thought it would be a life changing experience finally owning my own car. Well, I was wrong. It has been such a disaster for me and my family, that we are trying to sell it already. I totally regret buying it. I am not sure if I even like where I am going to school anymore. I feel like I don’t belong there anymore. I got to the point where I  stopped working out. I used to be a good athlete in my youth, but over time, personal injuries took me out of it. It’s hard for me to stay active because of this, and as a result I am out of shape. I know I should, but I just can’t get myself to do it anymore! I have been home for a few weeks, and all it’s done is make me wonder if I really like my town. I only keep in touch with a handful of friends from my highschool, most of my friends at home didn’t even go to my highschool. I have this “idea” of home, and I am not sure if it is still the same. When I look back at 2009, these things don’t make it seem all that glamorous.

That was the bad. However, there was plenty of good in 2009 as well! I have fallen in love with a beautiful girl named Jade, and I couldn’t be happier!!!! (BTW, if you got a chance, check out her blog!!! It’s great!) She is a really strong person, and has really taught me a lot. I am a lucky guy, she is amazing!!

There were plenty of great albums and films that I saw that made the year great. Catching the Arctic Monkeys drumstick at there show was beyond amazing. I am healthy with a family and friends, I should not be complaining. It is cliche, but sometimes by just looking at what you do have, rather than what you don’t have is enough to make you appreciate life! Things could have been a lot worse, so I have no right to complain.

Not only are we starting fresh with the year, this is a new decade. This is “our” decade. I am 19, and I am old enough for the first time to really appreciate life and see out this decade properly. Let’s do it right!

Finally, I want to talk about you guys. This blog really took off in 2009, and it has been a wild ride. I gotta thank you guys for sticking with me. I keep on blogging because you guys keep logging into your computers and visiting I really hope you keep coming back, because I want to make this blog one of the best music blogs around! I am excited to see what the future holds for us!!!

Happy New Year!!!!!

Goodbye Binghamton Fall Semester 2009! It is time to bring on winter break, and 2010!

I am pretty exhausted, as I pulled an all niter to study for my finals and finish up a writing portfolio. Time to catch up on the zz’s via a nap!

Good luck with the rest of the semester to all you college students out there! Here is a classic Mike Skinner song for you to listen to while you try to get through your finals, and wait for me to wake up. Keep flippin’ through those hefty textbook pages!

On The Greyhound, To The World Series

By Will Oliver, October 28th 2009 — with 5 comments

Hey guys, it’s 10:46 PM on Tuesday, I am on a Greyhound bus headed home. I would be driving myself normally, but my car has decided to be an old piece of shit, and cause me all kinds of problems. Why am I going home on a Tuesday night? Oh you know…just for…..Game 1 of the WORLD SERIES!!!!

That’s right, I got tickets for the first game of the Yankees, Phillies World Series! I can almost taste the glory!

That isn’t quite the reason for this post though. The other day I made a post contemplating whether or not I should write more personal posts, or leave it strictly to the mp3’s and new tunes. Well here is one of my first personal posts.

I am on a Greyhound bus for 3 hours, so I figured why not write some thoughts down?

I am almost there, there is another hour and a half left in my ride. It is really raining tonight!! I was finishing the second half of Edward Sharpe and Magnetic Zero’s record (an interview with those guys is on the way, btw!!!) for the first part of the ride. You probably aren’t shocked to learn that I am OCD with my music. If I start an album, I need to finish it. It doesn’t matter if I only get through two songs, I always find the need to finish the album. It’s a weird habit.

Now I am currently getting through Weezer’s new album Raditude (I got a promo copy, chill out). The first half is bearable, (If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want you to is by far the best song on the record. “I’m Your Daddy” is enjoyable enough as well. After these first two songs, things get a bit messy. “The Girl Got Hot” and “Can’t Stop Partying” (I think Lil’ Wayne’s rap is the best part!) are catchy enough to listen to, but at the end of the day they are forgettable. Everything else is rubbing me the wrong way. There are small traces of the old Weezer in some of these songs, but with every old trace of Weezer comes this overly poppy side that doesn’t seem right.

The only song I really, really, can’t stand is “Tripping Down The Freeway”. Totally not a fan.

However, there are some tracks that may grow on me, such as “I Don’t Want To Let You Go”. Surprisingly enough this sounds sorta retro ballad-esque. This record definitely has some low points, but there are some bright spots as well!

This ride is going pretty fast, I guess the fact that I’m digesting this new Weezer record is stimulating my mind enough to get through these 3 hours as quick as possible. The sad part of this whole thing is that I won’t get home until like 3am. I arrive in NYC at 12:45 am. However, I don’t live directly in NYC. I live about 25 minutes away in the suburbs. So I gotta take an hour train to get home. Fun.

Anyway, that’s all I will write. The people behind me are trying to sleep and don’t appreciate my macbook’s bright lights!!!

Let me know if this type of post is entertaining, or if it is complete shit. This may be my blog, but you guys are my readers. Your opinion means more than mine!!!

Here are some mp3’s. I threw in the “ballad” track I mentioned from Weezer, “Mrs. Robinson” from Simon & Garfunkel since it has a little baseball in i (a mention of Joe D!!) Finally, I threw in some “bus” related Arctic Monkeys and Decemberists tracks.

[mp3] : Weezer – I Don’t Want To Let You Go

[mp3] : Simon & Garfunkel – Mrs. Robinson

[mp3] : Arctic Monkeys – No Buses
