It sadly seems like it wouldn’t be a Governors Ball without a bit of rain. Although we lucked out with great weather during Day 1 and Day 2 of the festival, we weren’t quite as lucky on Day 3, with forcast calling for a storm during the start of the evening. So the festival delayed gates till 6:30 pm and sadly had to cut a good chunk of the artists from early in the day.

Florence + The Machine

Following the first day of Governors Ball 2019, we headed back to Randall’s Island Park for Day 2, which began with a set from the young rockers of Calpurnia, led by actor Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things. Following their set, we caught up with New York rockers Sunflower Bean, who had the hometown going strong, not always an easy feat during such an early timeslot of the festival.

We then caught a firey performance from Denzel Curry, before catching a set from reigning Best Album Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves over at the main stage. It was then off to see King Princess, who we just caught at Irving Plaza earlier in the year (as well as Boston Calling a few weeks ago). We kept the energy going with sets from Vince Staples and Lord Huron and then it was time for the headlining performance from Florence + The Machine on the main stage.

For concertgoers in New York, the arrival of June means one thing: Governors Ball. The festival returned for its 9th year (and it’s 8th at Randall’s Island). This was my 8th straight year covering the festival and we were excited to see what this year brought us with its lineup of acts across all genres.

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever

Our day began with Australian rockers Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, who released one of our favorite albums of 2018. They got the day going in style and handed things off Hippo Campus who put on a fun showing inside the tent stage.
