Elizabeth and the Catapult, the project of New York’s Elizabeth Ziman, returned last month with new album, Responsible Friend, an album about “the ways in which we show up for one another” and what exactly it means to be a responsible friend.
Which makes it ironic that the title track is about actually being pretty irresponsible and hitting on a friend. There’s a sweet and infectious charm to the track, which a playful nature that has a cheeky sense of humor and charm that isn’t shy on delightful hooks that are delivered ever so slyly. There is a blend of artists like Jenny Lewis, Natalie Prass, and even She & Him in the way it molds classic pop sounds into something modern and undeniable.
Speaking on the track, Ziman adds:
“‘Responsible Friend’ is actually about being pretty irresponsible,” says Ziman. “It’s about hitting on a friend when you know you probably shouldn’t – it’s awkward, a little funny, and a little messy. A friendly public service announcement: don’t flirt with your friends… it rarely ends well.”
