Otoliths is a post-punk band led by Oakland-based and Chicago-raised musician, Tom Smith, who is gearing up for the release of their debut album, Lithos, on March 20th.
“Maeve’s Melody” is its lead single, which channels 90s jangle pop with elements of 60s British classic rock that has a quiet confidence that shines brightly. Its a look at how differently life could be and how parenthood has changed him. Along with a genuine emotional undercurrent, he flashes some really smart songwriting and pop hooks that make the past feel fresh and reinvigorating once again.
Speaking on the track he adds:
Maeve’s Melody was written in my laundry room after my baby went to bed. It’s lyrics are a reflection on the diverging paths my life could’ve taken, and how parenthood was starting to change me.
