Rasmus Weirup is an independent, experimental singer, songwriter, and producer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. He describes his sound as ” The Greenwich Village folk scene of 1967 treated with a coffee grinder and broadcasted through the echoing sound system of an abandoned shopping mall.”

Pretty awesome.

He’s recently shared new single “Bar Voyage”, the first single taken from an upcoming new EP. The song is an unorthodox take on the traditional murder ballad, inspired by the minimalist, gothic synth-pop of the eighties. There’s a dark gothwave quality that has a synth-driven atmospheric glow that feels like you’re in a trance-like state, yet itching for the dancefloor. It feels like a late night turned early morning, where you’re hiding behind the curtains as the sun starts to emerge.

Speaking further on the track, they add:

The track was recorded early in the morning after a night of clubbing in a small rented room in Berlin using an analogue synthesizer borrowed from a musician friend. The title is an homage to the iconic gay bar, Bar Voyage, in Schöneberg – always a good place to begin a night on the town.
