Minneapolis-based band POLIÇA have recently returned with their single “She Knows Me”, taken from their forthcoming album, Dreams Go, out October 17 via Memphis Industries.
“She Knows Me” is a sparse and bare-bones ballad, described as being about being known by someone. There’s a haunted and eeriely beautiful nature to the track and performance that captures a sense of loss and longing that digs dip into the soul and human condition in a raw and vulnerable way.
Speaking on the single, singer Channy Leaneagh explains:
“To be intimately known at your worst and best—that’s the kind of love I know with you. I’ve heard people say we don’t want to be loved for who we are, but for who we want to be. But I’m never my best with you, and neither are you. I’m never who I want to be. And still, we love.”
This song came out of the early Pachyderm sessions, but for about a year we paused working on the record—trying to figure out what we were even doing with ourselves—and during that time I started playing it on acoustic guitar. And eventually, it became this song. A long time ago, a music journalist in Minneapolis predicted we’d eventually add guitar to our music. So… here it is. Probably our last record, and it includes nylon strings, strummed by me.”
