The Linda Lindas are a rock band from Los Angeles, California whose members are sisters Lucia da la Garza and Mila de la Garza, their cousin Eloise Wong, and lifelong friend Bela Salazar. The group has opened for rock luminaries such as Bikini Kill, Green Day, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Performing together since 2018 and releasing full length albums in 2022 and 2024, their musical output is truly impressive for a band where the oldest member is barely over 20 and the youngest member is still only 14 years of age. The Linda Lindas found themselves headlining Brooklyn Steel on April 22nd, touring in support of their second studio album, No Obligation, which was released in October of last year by Epitaph Records.
The Brooklyn Steel crowd was young and diverse; many children were standing against the front rail, some barely tall enough to see over the barricade. Halfway through opening set by Pinkshift, a circle pit formed with a good number of young children wearing light up flower crowns joining in and enthusiastically making their rounds in the space that opened up. Before the Linda Lindas even took the stage, kids and adults alike throughout the crowd excitedly chanted the band’s name in anticipation.

On stage, the band itself was fun, energetic, and proudly wore their influences on their sleeves—they covered songs from groups such as Talking Heads, Los Prisoneros, Green Day, and Bikini Kill. In addition to the aforementioned covers, their 21-song setlist comprised of the entirety of their latest LP, No Obligation, as well as selections from their debut album, Growing Up. Above all, the Linda Lindas are a band that stays true to the punk ethos. Before finishing their set, the band proudly shouted their support for a free Palestine, protection of trans individuals from discrimination, protection of immigrants facing deportation, and urged the crowd fight for government programs that actually help people. With opening act Pinkshift joining the Linda Lindas on stage, the evening ended with a lively cover of Bikini Kill’s “Rebel Girl.”
