London indie outfit Bollards is a band whose song “Plate Up” we shared back in 2022. They have since returned and tapped into a patient approach on their atmosphere-laden new single “No Room”.

The track features glittery electronics blended with a post-punk tension that builds and builds, honed in though it flirts with a blissful release. The track combines elements of contemporaries like Black Country, New Road, Dry Cleaning, and Shame in a refreshing and life-affirming manner.

Speaking on “No Room”, Bollards frontman Jonny Dickens explains:

“It’s about trying to find comfort in a place where it just isn’t possible, trying to find and accessorise a space with material things to change that, and the realisation that it’s not the space, it’s you. The song was written way back in 2019 when I made that realisation in my own life, and tried to change my mindset and my relationships with the people around me to get to a place of ‘comfort’. The ‘Fire’ refrain refers to a sense that that old space, the way I tried to manufacture comfort using stupid bits of tech and furniture, needed to go, it needed to be burnt down (metaphorically of course).”
