There is something so fascinating about a lost gem, a song that captures a great work of art that signals something that could have been.

This is the case with the discovery of Miriam Weinkle, who back in 1964 covered “Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered” (a classic song most famously performed by Ella Fitzgerald and Doris Day) at Miami’s Criteria Studios. Her dream to be a singer was ultimately put on hold to be a stay-at-home mother, and she never got to live out her dream.

The recording was recently unearthed, remixed, and remastered to its original glory and Weinkle, who is now 94 years old, finally got to see her single get properly released. It’s a time capsule for sure, the sort of classic sound with an elegance that isn’t quite found in today’s music.

Enjoy a listen to her cover, which we have shared below, and would be a nice welcome addition to any holiday playlist.
