Manchester, England art-rock/post-punk four-piece Soup! have been shared around these parts before, and have since returned with their most recent single “Only Time.”
It’s an utterly charming slice of indie rock with some artful jittery instrumentation, colorful synths, witty lyricism and vocal infliction, paired with some funky 80s rock elements that have a vintage glow, with plenty of their own verve and qualities that make it very much their own.
About the tune, the band’s vocalist Matthew Beswick added:
The lyrics recollect memories of early childhood performances and the reluctance to perform. These reflections clash with society’s current need for attention, validation and attempts to gain both through self-promotion and performance.
