The Mayor of Bad News, the project of New Jersey-based musician Max Seeger, has returned with his brand new EP Hit It With the Hose, which he recorded along with his brother Sam Seeger (they also worked together on their 2020 EP Coast to Coast).

The EP will be released tomorrow on all streaming services, but today, we have the special honor and privilege of premiering the 4-song gem with you.

Opener “I’m Not Listenin'” (which sees them joined by their siblings Ben and Lily Seeger) kicks things off in epic fashion, delivering a 70’s era classic rock breeziness that makes us eager for the warm better days of summer that are just on the horizon.

From there, the title track “Hit It With the Hose” delivers a psych-leaning grooviness that feels equal parts David Byrne and Khruangbin – colorful, hazy, and creative.

While the back end of the EP delivers all the goods that guitar-loving fans crave. “On My Way” dabbles in a soulful classic rock draw with a bustling guitar solo and a little bit of a cool 90s sound that somehow blends the worlds of Luna and Cake.

Then there’s the finale “Brake-Cutters” (which feature New Myths’ Rosie Slater on drums and backing vocals), which closes out the EP in style, with a blend of wild storytelling that threatens to become totally unhinged before reeling it back in for a wild finish of Jack White-esque Nashville guitar solos and plenty of blues-loving moments.

This is a 4-song delight that will be a nice way to slide into the early days of Spring and to keep on rotation when we are finally firing up the grill come summertime. You can find the EP streaming exclusively below and be sure to stream it when it comes out on Friday and if you like what you hear, give it a purchase over on Bandcamp.
