Sandwoman is a Los Angeles-based songwriter & artist who released her new single “Hot December” on indie label California Sound Hotel.

It’s a dream-pop effort with a slow burn nature that captures a feeling of melancholy and burning desire that lingers in the air like a candle slowly burning out.

The song has had a long journey, originally being penned when she was living in New York in 2015 and depicting the conflicting point where friendship may turn romantic. The subject of the song just happens to be Grant Carey, who produced it with her in their home bedroom studio – proving that sometimes taking that risk is more than worth it.

You can stream the song below, where you can also find a detailed take on the creation of the song from Sandwoman:

I originally wrote Hot December in 2015 when I was living in New York. There is a pivotal moment when a friendship crosses into a romantic relationship that is risky, vulnerable, and… hot. I felt exposed, like “my cards were showing.” Even though I initially felt scared that my love wouldn’t be reciprocated or would damage the friendship, after passing the point of no return I felt a sort of surrender and relief. This love was the kind of love I had always wanted. And having that love reciprocated, even potentially just for a moment, was more than worth it. It turned out that the love lasted more than just a fleeting moment – it’s lasted more than 7 years and I’m so grateful that Grant has created/produced this track with me that tells part of our story.
