Smushie is the project of Chicago-based musician Austin Koenigstein, one half of the band Berta Bigtoe.
He’s recently let go of his classic rock and folk influenced new single “Faxing It In.” Like a mix of The Band, Dylan and many other heavyweights, Koenigstein just taps into a retro sensability that is just good old fashioned songwriting that wins you over instantanously.

I recorded all the parts myself at my practice space in Chicago, IL. I engineered and mixed this entirely to a Tascam 388 tape console. When I wrote this, I actually thought that “faxing it in” was a common expression, but it turns out I was thinking of “mailing it in” and “phoning it in.” We love these kinds of mistakes 🙂
