Astrachan is the Chicago-based recording project of Ben Astrachan, one-half of the Chicago duo Berta Bigtoe.
On January 15th he released his self-titled debut album, which features elegantly delivered folk-inspired offerings such as the lead single “Ladakh.”
Ladakh was written by Astrachin while in the ancient city of Leh, Ladakh at the Himalayan crossroads of Buddhism and Islam. The lyrics were later finished on a quaint farm in the foothills of the Catskills, the spiritual capital of the American Northeast.
You really get a sense of this spiritual realm in what results in a beautiful mix of Beach Boys and early Sufjan Stevens.
