Today Father John Misty returned with not just one, but two new songs, “To S.” and “To R.” Both come as a part of his contribution to the Sub Pop Singles Club Vol. 5 and recorded in Los Angeles with production from Dave Cerminara and the Haxan Cloak.
It’s an always welcome return from Josh Tillman, who doesn’t stray too far from where he last left us with 2018’s God’s Favorite Customer. “To S.” si a lovely piano-led ballads with some beautiful strings and orchestration that at times dips into Beatles-esque territory. While “To R.” is a loungey laid back ballad with a smooth and confident flow that fits well alongside the a-side.
