Tei Shi, the moniker of R&B/Pop artist Valerie Teicher, celebrated the release of her latest album, La Linda (via Downtown Records), with a pair of shows in New York and LA. Seeing that the album was largely inspired by a feeling of rejuvenation after relocating from New York City to Los Angeles, it was only fitting that the first two shows in support of La Linda would take place in those respective cities. We were fortunate enough to be in attendance for Tei Shi’s sold out show on the 15th of November at the new Manhattan venue The Dance.

Backed by vocalists Zalma Bour and Kittie Harlow, Tei Shi enthralled the capacity crowd with a 12-song setlist, nine of which were selections from La Linda. Even though the album had only been released at midnight earlier that day, a good number of concert-goers up front were already familiar with many of the lyrics to the new material. The live debuts of “Matando” and “No Jueges,” only the second and third Spanish-language songs ever released by the Colombian/Canadian artist, were warmly embraced by the entire crowd. Closing the night with her breakout single “Bassically,” Tei Shi wildly whipped her hair while belting out the chorus with much of the audience enthusiastically joining in.
