There was a period where we weren’t sure if we’d hear from English rockers Bombay Bicycle Club again. It had been a long five years since their last album So Long, See You Tomorrow was released before they went on their indefinite hiatus which had many fans worried about what the future held for them.

But then one day in August they returned just like that, releasing their utterly addictive new single “Eat, Sleep, Wake (Nothing But You)” as a part of their return announcement. It’s one of their best ever tracks, instantly squashing any questions about if they “still had it.” It’s been on constant rotation ever since and it turns out that it’s the first taste of their brand new album Everything Else Has Gone Wrong, which will be released in January 2020 via Mmm… Records.

The band also announced a handful of tour dates, including a two-night run at Brooklyn Steel. We caught night one of the run on October 7th, which was our first time seeing the band since their shows at Terminal 5 and Webster Hall back in 2014.

It was clear from the moment you walked into the hall of Brooklyn Steel that there was a buzz in the air about their return and they made good on that promise by opening the show with the trifecta of “Emergency Contraception Blues,” “Shuffle,” and “It’s Alright Now,” covering all three of their previous eras at once. The band seemed rejuvenated and completely refreshed, thrilled to be back playing for their fans and the packed audience was just as enthused, singing along with as much gleeful passion as youll see.

Backed by some gorgeous lights that illuminated the band especially well during “Eat, Sleep, Wake (Nothing But You),” which was every bit as triumphant as advertised live. They also gave us a preview of some more of what is to come, delivering two other new songs entitled “Is It Real” and the title track “Everything Else Has Gone Wrong,” both of which only raised our excitement for the new record which is surely going to jump-start the new year in unforgettable fashion.

Bombay Bicycle Club is back and here to stay and in some ways, are only just getting started.
