We last caught Pinegrove last October when they played to a sold out Music Hall of Williamsburg on the heels of the release of Skylight. It’s been nearly a year since we have seen them last and the band has since moved up to much bigger rooms such as Brooklyn Steel, where they played on September 29th, following two other sold out area shows of similar size at Webster Hall and White Eagle Hall.

The band has recently signed to Rough Trade Records, who released their new single “Moment,” a hint of the shape of things to come in the future. Pinegrove has a very big one ahead of them and it didn’t take them signing to Rough Trade to make that clear. Anyone in attendance at their Brooklyn Steel performance last month could’ve showed you that as the packed audience sang along to every single word, nearly overwhelming the vocals of frontman Evan Stephens Hall on occasion. It’s an amazing thing to witness, the sort of emotional experience that heightens the already very emotional songs that the band produces with such genuine heart.

Hall remarked at how special it was to be playing Brooklyn Steel, which he remarked was the “biggest damn Pinegrove show of all time… so far,” leaving some room for the growth that seems more than likely. Many friends and family from their hometown of Montclair, New Jersey made the trek to the show, including someone Hall thanked for “bringing that allergy medicine that one time.” Even those who Hall and the rest of the band didn’t recognize personally felt like longtime friends of the band who knew the songs inside and out and held onto the band so near and clear to their heart.

Along with the many favorite anthems from their albums Skylight and Cardinal such as “Aphasia,” “Old Friends,” and “Angelina,” the band gave us a glimpse into the future with new songs “Endless,” “Neighbor” and “The Alarmist,”in addition to “Moment.” These were the only songs that weren’t belted by every single member of the audience, but that will surely change the next time that the band returns to New York with a new album.
