I heard a lot from people that 2018 was a weak year for film. I also heard that it was a great one. Who knows what is what. But what I do know is that there were plenty of films that stuck with me this year and as usual, if you took the time to dig around outside of the big-budget spectacles there were plenty of great films with worthy stories to explore.

As hard as I tried I didn’t get to see nearly everything I wanted. But here are 40 of my favorites from 2018:
