Saint Mela is the New York-based quartet of Wolf Weston, Steven Dewey, Josh Rollin, and Jason MacDermott. On November 30 the group will release their debut album first bloom and today we have the please of premiering their colorful and vibrant single “past tense.”

The track is a perfect appetizer before a massive Thanksgiving feast, full of imaginative instrumentation and a strong vocal performance from Weston whose voice reminds a bit of Merrill Garbus with the artful approach and production that calls to mind the technicolor whirls of say, Sylvan Esso.

The weather is getting bitterly cold but a track like “past tense” will help us warm up like a good batch of whiskey. We can’t wait to hear what other treasures that are waiting for us on first bloom.

For now, enjoy your exclusive first listen to “past tense” below, along with the single art made by Aaron Lockwood.
