RCA recording artist Amy Shark released her debut EP, Night Thinker, last year. The last time we caught the Australian singer-songwriter, she opened for Bleachers at Brooklyn Steel. On April 13th, despite a nor’easter hitting the New York City area earlier in the day, we were in attendance for Amy’s performance in front of a sold out crowd at the Bowery Ballroom. It was the penultimate show of a headlining tour throughout North America that began in Los Angeles and ended in Boston.

Backed by a two-piece band — a drummer and a multi-instrumentalist at keyboard and bass — Shark roamed the stage with the microphone in hand as she crooned and captivated the audience. Mid-set, she took up an acoustic guitar to perform a couple of solo songs before going electric and inviting her band back to the stage to cover Eminem’s “Superman.” Keeping the audience engaged between songs, Amy often regaled the crowd with charming anecdotes and brief explanations about certain song meanings.
