On September 22 Wilco celebrated the release of their new album Schmilco (released via Dbpm Records) with a special in-store performance at Rough Trade NYC. Entry was given to any fans who were quick enough to grab a copy of the record at the store a few weeks ahead of the performance (on September 6). For those who were able to gain entry, they witnessed one of the most intimate shows you’ll ever see Wilco play at this point of their career, especially somewhere like New York.
I half-expected the band to play all of the new album, but their 9-song set actually featured a mix of new songs, along with older favorites like “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart,” and “Misunderstood,” along with more recent ones like “Bull Black Nova.” It was surreal to see the band in action up close and personal, and you could tell the band were enjoying it too, smiling throughout and sharing some great stage banter with the crowd.
