Back in March LCD Soundsystem announced that they were set to play some super intimate Easter weekend shows at Webster Hall, that served as a warm-up for their dates at Coachella, and for the rest of the dozens of music festivals that awaited them this summer. This would be their first show in five years, since their “farewell” show at Madison Square Garden in 2011. As you know, I was very conflicted when James Murphy officially announced their return in January, both happy to see them return, but also now felt foolish for how much I put into their farewell (final tickets, merch, emotions, etc).

By the time the Webster Hall shows were announced, all feelings were put aside and the number one goal became finding a way into these shows. Considering how the band only got bigger with their departure, this was most likely the last chance to find yourself in front of the band in a room that wasn’t an arena, or outside at a major festival.

There was a tense atmosphere of excitement and curiosity hanging above the crowd as showtime slowly arrived, we had no idea what songs to expect, or how the night would go. But once the band walked up to the familiar thumps of “Get Innocuous!,” they soon had the packed Webster Hall sweaty and its floors literally bouncing up and down. Although a new album is expected soon via Columbia Records (another sign of how big the band is now), no new songs were played. Instead, we got treated to old favorites like “Daft Punk Is Playing At My House,” “Someone Great,” “Home,” “Dance Yrself Clean,” and “All My Friends.”

Sure the band had some rough patches, but that’s a part of the charm of a last minute warm up show. It was good to see LCD Soundsystem back again, completely erasing everything else in that moment in time, including both their farewell and return. All we had was them in front of playing music again, and that was all that mattered.
