Time stops for no one, and like every year, the summer is breezing on by. Which only means one thing: the annual New York Film Festival is rapidly approaching. This will be the 53rd year for the prestigious festival, which takes place at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. We covered the festival last year (along with Monday Morning Matinee), and are looking forward to returning again this year.

The festival doesn’t kick off till September, but the festival has already shared the big 3 films that will headline the festival, better known as the Centerpiece, Opening, and Closing Night Selections.

Steve Jobs, the highly anticipated biopic from director Danny Boyle and written by Aaron Sorkin (who wrote The Social Network which was at NYFF in 2010), is the Centerpiece selection. The Walk will walk out as the Opening Night selection. It’s the latest from Robert Zemeckis, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as French high-wire artist Philippe Petit, shot in 3D. And then there’s the Closing Night Selection, Miles Ahead, the Miles Davis biopic starring Don Cheadle, who also directed and co-wrote the script.

Miles Ahead

It’s a great starting point for what is always one of my favorite times of the year. For more information on the festival, head here.
