Daredevil, Charlie Cox, Netflix, Marvel

After surprising everyone with a tease for the trailer (which I’ll forgive Marvel for), Marvel and Netflix dropped a trailer for Daredevil this morning on IGN and YouTube.

From the looks of it, Daredevil will be Matt Murdock’s origin story as Daredevil, most likely leading up to him donning his trademark horned red suit. It pulls from Frank Miller’s Man Without Fear arc – the black eyeless ski mask and ninja-like garb, Matt’s blind mentor Stick (Scott Glenn), etc. It also has that “gritty realism” angle that some superhero movies are trying to play up. The lighting and New York City location shooting certainly help. It’s less of Mark Waid’s current stellar run (with art to complement from Chris Samnee), but visually and aurally, the trailer captures a little of Matt’s radar sense – more of which I look forward to viewing when the series hits Netflix.

Daredevil, the first of Marvel’s five Netflix-based series, follows blind lawyer Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) who secretly moonlights in New York City as the costumed vigilante Daredevil, thanks to an accident involving a truck of radioactive waste that blinded him as a child and enhanced his other senses. He’s aided by his law partner and best friend Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), his love interest Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), and nurse Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), and he goes toe-to-toe with Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), better known as Kingpin. Also included in the cast are Ayelet Zurer, Bob Gunton, Toby Leonard Moore, Vondie Curtis, and Peter Shinkoda.

Daredevil hits Netflix on April 10 and is run by Steven S. DeKnight with writing and production help from Drew Goddard and Jeph Loeb.

In addition to Daredevil, Marvel and Netflix are building to a The Defenders series, introducing Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) in A.K.A. Jessica Jones later this year, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) in Luke Cage (first appearing in A.K.A. Jessica Jones), and Danny Rand in Iron Fist – in addition to several other characters, such as Zebediah Kilgrave/The Purple Man (David Tennant), Patsy Walker/Hellcat (Rachael Taylor), and an as-yet-unnamed character (Carrie Anne Moss).

Which are you most looking forward to? Let us know, and we’ll have more Daredevil coverage as it comes!
