After the mass destruction and cleanup in Chicago after Transformers: Dark of the Moon, it’s clear that Autobots and Decepticons alike are no longer welcome in the upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Picking up a few years after the events of Dark of the Moon, the nation’s wary of anything extraterrestrial and robotic, so when auto mechanic/scrap seller Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) unknowingly finds (and then restores) a streamlined Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen), he draws the attention of shady government agents lead by Savoy (Titus Welliver) and Decepticons. Since he has nowhere else to turn, Optimus must team up with Grimlock and the Dinobots to save the world from certain extinction … or just Cybertronians.

Dark foreboding lines and shots of Kelsey Grammer and Stanley Tucci add some serious dramatic heft, and the trailer has an air of slightly toned-down Bay-ness. The Bay-splosions aren’t as large as in the previous Transformers movies, and the action (at least what’s in this teaser trailer) seems to be more coherent. If there’s one thing I’d be thankful for, it’s a coherent and minimally destructive Michael Bay film … with multi-faceted female characters, so here’s hoping that Tessa Yeager (Nicola Peltz) isn’t the traditional Bay damsel in distress.
