Fruitvale Station Poster

Fruitvale Station tells the true story about Oscar Grant’s murder that took place on New Years Day 2009 by a Transit Police Officer in Oakland, California. It caught my attention not because of the chilling story at hand, but because the film won both the U.S. Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. By winning both the critical and audience award, Fruitvale Station seems to be both a critical darling and a potential fan favorite.

Oscar Grant is played by Michael B. Jordan, who starred in last year’s surprise hit Chronicle. The film also stars Octavia Spencer (The Help), Melonie Diaz (Be Kind Rewind), Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) and Kevin Durand (Lost). Forest Whitaker actually produced it.

The trailer looks powerful and emotional just like we expected. It looks like it’s going to be a great watch. Expectations are sky high for it.

Fruitvale Station opens on July 12. Watch the trailer below.
