In late October we were blessed to have Portugal. The Man return back to the New York area to play another show on their most recent run of dates (including a stop at Terminal 5 this summer), this time just north of New York City at the one and only Capitol Theatre in Port Chester. They’re out on the road in support of their new album Woodstock which was released earlier this year (via Atlantic Records), and still seem to be rolling high on the popularity of their “global phenom” and “smash hit,” ‘Feel It Still’ that keeps on breaking records left and right.

Portugal. The Man at Terminal 5 (June 6, 2017)

By Will Oliver, June 19th 2017 — with 1 comment

Four years has passed since Alaska rockers Portugal. The Man released Evil Friends, making the arrival of new album Woodstock (via Atlantic Records) the longest wait between albums of their career. But it seems to have paid off, as current single “Feel It Still” has done extremely well, landing a #1 placement on the Billboard Adult Alternative Songs chart as well as #2 on the Alternative songs chart.

Portugal. The Man @ Governors Ball (June 9, 2013)

By Will Oliver, June 12th 2013 — with 2 comments

Portugal. The Man were one of those bands that I always wanted to check out more but just never did. I always felt like I would like them, but I just never got around to fully giving them a chance. Since I’ve seen Cold War Kids a few times in my days, I decided I would skip them to finally see what Portugal. The Man were all about. Glad I did, because they were a treat live.

They sort of reminded me a lot of the newer direction that The Shins have taken, which makes sense as Portugal. The Man’s new album Evil Friends was produced by Danger Mouse. A lot of the songs they played definitely had that Danger Mouse/James Mercer sound to them. I enjoyed their set so much so that I made it my mission this month to dig into their catalog and finally get into them after all this time.

We All Want Someone’s Best Songs Of 2017

By Will Oliver, January 12th 2018

[artwork by Anthony Bauer]

And the time has come for the one post that all my friends actually read on these here pages, my best (or favorite) songs of 2017. These are the songs that I obsessed over throughout all of last year and many are still getting heavy rotation into the new one.

You’ll find select highlights from many of the albums that appeared on my best albums list but also a few new acts who blossomed or select songs that stood out on albums that didn’t quite shine as bright. Either way, I hope that you find at least one new song or artist that you didn’t know beforehand and that they make your day that much brighter. Thanks again for sticking around with us for another year and here’s to a bigger and better year in 2018.

As usual, the list is posted in a countdown format from 100-1 and I have made a Spotify playlist which you can find here or embedded at the very end of the post. All the songs are in there except for Ty Segall’s “Orange Color Queen,” as the album is not on Spotify.

Without further ado, here are my favorite songs from 2017:

Best Albums of 2017: Anthony’s Picks

By Anthony Bauer, January 12th 2018 — with 1 comment

Before we dive into my favorite albums of 2017, lets quickly visit some of the years best EP’s.  There were a lot of really fantastic EP’s released this year but that doesn’t mean any of these skimped out on quality.  Here are my favorite, or most listened to EP’s of 2017:

Best Songs of 2017: Anthony’s Picks

By Anthony Bauer, January 11th 2018

This ‘top 100 songs of 2017’ post could have easily been ‘top 200 songs of 2017’ due to the insane (yet absolutely amazing) amount of great music that was released this past year.  While it is near impossible to listen to it all, here were my favorite 100 songs from 2017 (with a bonus 5, because… why not?):

Favorite Concert Photos of 2017

By Will Oliver, January 3rd 2018

Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Kings Theatre (November 7)

If nothing else, we covered more shows in 2017 than ever before. In addition to my usual show-going madness, we had a great number of contributions from our amazing team of photographer friends here on the site both old and new. From the major festivals to the arena show, to the tiniest DIY club, we tried to be everywhere and anywhere that good music flowed.

Below are just a handful of some of the shots that our cameras snapped in 2017, listed in chronological order, along with the link to the show coverage and the appropriate credit. Thanks to everyone on the small but growing We All Want Someone team for their contributions and for you the readers for giving us the motivation to keep fighting the good fight.

Without further ado, here are some of our favorite live shots from 2017 (we will have a list ranking our top shows coming later today as well)

Favorite Live Photos of 2014

By Will Oliver, February 5th 2015

(Foals at Terminal 5)

There was no shortage of great shows to be found in 2014. You can find the best 50 that I saw in 2014 right here. Throughout the year, we took thousands upon thousands of photos, documenting every moment of these unforgettable shows. We put in a lot of work trying to capture the essence of these performances, and I wanted to share these photos with you in one giant collection.

These are not only photos that I took, but also photos taken by our great team of contributing photographers. They’re posted in chronological order, as there was simply no other right way to go about ordering the photos. Below each photo, is the link to the original post, as well as the photographer credit (if it’s other than myself).

So with that said, sit back, and enjoy our favorite live concert photos that we took in 2014. You can also find the gallery posted over at our facebook page. There’s probably one too many photos posted here, but we probably saw way too many shows.

Best Shows Of 2014

By Will Oliver, February 4th 2015 — with 1 comment

I saw more shows than ever before in 2014. The number sits somewhere well over 200, not to mention various festivals and CMJ/SXSW showcases. There was a lot of great music seen, and a lot of great memories shared. We had to say goodbye to Glasslands, Death By Audio, and 285 Kent in one year, which will change the live music landscape in Brooklyn more than we will ever realize.

With so much live music seen, making a list of the best shows is a nearly impossible task. But I sat down, shifted through all my photos, recaps, and foursquare/swarm check ins (very useful in keeping track of shows), and compiled a list of the top 50 shows that I saw last year. Inevitably, a lot of good shows missed the mark, which just reinforces how great those were that did make the cut.

There are a lot of factors that go into this sort of thing. But at the end of the day, these were the shows that made an impression on me throughout the year, the sort of shows that I will want to relive again.

I got a few more posts coming, including some of our favorite live photos taken at these shows, as well as my long overdue best songs and albums. Stay tuned for that. But for now, enjoy my list of the best 50 shows that I saw in 2014.
