Metallica at Nassau Coliseum (May 17, 2017)

Metal greats Metallica have been touring hard non-stop as a part of their “Worldwired Tour” following the release of their 2016 album Hardwired… to Self-Destruct.

Following a show at MetLife Stadium, Metallica played to a sold out crowd at Nassau Coliseum, actually the only show of the tour not played at a stadium (but still not quite as small the last time we saw them). This made it something pretty special for those die-hard fans who were able to grab a ticket.

Metallica at Webster Hall (September 27, 2016)

By Will Oliver, October 1st 2016 — with 2 comments

Mere minutes following their performance at Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, metal gods Metallica announced a special intimate performance three days later at Webster Hall on Tuesday, September 27. The show would be a contest available only to members of their fifth member fan club, making it one of the hottest shows of the year, and also one of the toughest tickets to find.

For those lucky enough to win tickets, they were treated to arguably the tiniest show they’ll ever see from the metal icons, which featured old favorites as well as a few new songs from their upcoming album Hardwired… to Self-Destruct, out via their own label, Blackened Recordings. Their thunderous riffs had all of Webster Hall literally shaking, even from the top balcony.

Find some photos from this special performance posted below, along with the setlist.

If your a Yankees fan, or even a baseball fan, you’re well aware that the great career of Yankees closer Mariano Rivera is sadly coming to an end. As a die-hard Yankees fan, this is hard for me to accept. But with all the cool acts that fans and other organizations around baseball are doing for Mariano, it’s making it a little bit easier.

Yesterday the Yankees honored Rivera in a pre-game tribute. For his entire career Rivera has walked out to the field with Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” as his warmup theme song. It was only fitting that Metallica came out to play live during the ceremony, letting Rivera literally walk out to the field as they played the song that has been associated with him for so long.

A really cool moment for not only Yankee fans, but all of baseball. Check it out below.

Guards just tweeted that they have a new free EP on bandcamp. It’s a digital 7″, 3 song EP consisting of covers that the band did. The songs that they covered are: Metallica’s “Motorbreath”, Vampire Weekends “Taxi Cab” and M.I.A.’s “Born Free”. Quite an eclectic group of covers.

Stream it below, or download the whole thing via bandcamp. I posted a mp3 of the “Taxi Cab” Cover, as well

[New] Metallica – Cyanide

By Will Oliver, September 2nd 2008

So Metallica have posted a new song on their website called ‘Cyanide.’ It will be off their new album ‘Death Magnetic’ which is slated to release September 12th worldwide. They also previewed the song ‘The Day That Never Comes’ a few days ago, with a video on the site as well.. You can buy both songs on itunes right now.

I am not a big fan of Metallica. I only follow some of their earlier work, but I figured one of my readers may be a big Metallica fan and this may be news to them. This is pretty long track edging over 6 minutes, and I thought it was not half bad at all. People seem to instantly put down their new work but this seemed decent to me. Let me know what you all think!

Favorite Concert Photos of 2017

Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Kings Theatre (November 7)

If nothing else, we covered more shows in 2017 than ever before. In addition to my usual show-going madness, we had a great number of contributions from our amazing team of photographer friends here on the site both old and new. From the major festivals to the arena show, to the tiniest DIY club, we tried to be everywhere and anywhere that good music flowed.

Below are just a handful of some of the shots that our cameras snapped in 2017, listed in chronological order, along with the link to the show coverage and the appropriate credit. Thanks to everyone on the small but growing We All Want Someone team for their contributions and for you the readers for giving us the motivation to keep fighting the good fight.

Without further ado, here are some of our favorite live shots from 2017 (we will have a list ranking our top shows coming later today as well)

In late October we were blessed to have Portugal. The Man return back to the New York area to play another show on their most recent run of dates (including a stop at Terminal 5 this summer), this time just north of New York City at the one and only Capitol Theatre in Port Chester. They’re out on the road in support of their new album Woodstock which was released earlier this year (via Atlantic Records), and still seem to be rolling high on the popularity of their “global phenom” and “smash hit,” ‘Feel It Still’ that keeps on breaking records left and right.

Portugal. The Man at Terminal 5 (June 6, 2017)

By Will Oliver, June 19th 2017 — with 1 comment

Four years has passed since Alaska rockers Portugal. The Man released Evil Friends, making the arrival of new album Woodstock (via Atlantic Records) the longest wait between albums of their career. But it seems to have paid off, as current single “Feel It Still” has done extremely well, landing a #1 placement on the Billboard Adult Alternative Songs chart as well as #2 on the Alternative songs chart.
