We last caught Operators last December when the band ran through some old Handsome Furs songs to a sold out audience at Baby’s All Right.

They returned this year with their sophomore album Radiant Dawn, which was released via Last Gang Records. On July 11th the trio of Dan Boeckner, Devojka and Sam Brown returned to New York for a headlining performance at Bowery Ballroom in support of the new record.

The band, backed by fitting fun and colorful visuals projected behind (and over them) ran through almost all of the best efforts from the new album as well as “Cold Light” from their debut album. Not only that, but the band proved that the Baby’s All Right performance of Handsome Furs material wasn’t a one-and-done deal, with 5 more Handsome Furs’ songs performed throughout the evening.

There’s not much better than hearing Boeckner belting out one of his super-charged Springsteen-esque choruses, especially surrounded by the backing efforts of Devojka’s swirling synths and the tight percussion of Brown behind the kit. The trio may have been initially viewed as a side-project to some, but it’s become very clear that Operators are a strong and viable band that are here for the long haul.
